Tansy

Common Tansy is not very common in Calumet County, yet. There are only a few known patches and they are still in the stage of being easy to control. Areas in Manitowoc and Brown County, however, have significant areas that are already densely overgrown with this invasive plant. Do not let it get out of control in Calumet County.

Tansy grows from two to five feet tall with yellow, button-like flower clusters. Common tansy is highly visible and can become common in roadsides, pastures, fields, prairies and hedgerows. It grows in sunny, well-drained soils and blooms July to October. The plant gives off a strong fragrance when crushed. This perennial plant spreads via an extensive root system coupled with profuse seed production. Tansy especially favors disturbed soils along ditch banks, where water will quickly spread the seeds for miles. For more information, visit http://dnr.wi.gov/invasives/fact/tansy.htm
